Project Statement

My goal for the course Introduction to Media Design was to brand my client, Shams Saab, in a way that conveys what art means to her. The three deliverables were a poster, a logo, and an animatic. Shams Saab is my friend. She has a strong connection to art because it gives her a way to express herself.

1. Poster

Before any designing could start , I first had to understand what Shams wanted for her brand. Through her client brief, I learnt that “being anything but an artist was never a choice” for her. Shams’ words were crucial to the process: the way she described art how art roots her in a transformative space. This took form in the visual style through elements like busyness, organic shapes and motifs.

The first moodboard shows the colours and movement of lines that make up and break up the negative space. The second consists of potential layouts that showcase art and growth. The last displays different styles I really enjoy and might provide as inspiration for style.

Because I know that Shams prefers more organic illustration styles, I went with what.

2. Logo

The logo was inspired by Shams'  habit of carrying a sketchbook with her. The rounded look softens the feel of the logo, which suits both her and the poster well.

3. Animatic

Shams’ client brief talked about how art is a home to her, especially when her surroundings were constantly changing. She finds solace through the stories she reads and the stories she creates. Through the solace found is inevitable growth.

Things to consider for next time

Branding is a challenging, but enjoyable, process wherein I explore and discover what the facets of a brand are. Next time, I would like to dedicate more of my time to further cementing all parts of the project, as I felt like the animatic was lacking in someways. Some scenes were left out because of time constraint.
